Harnessing the Ripple Effect of ADN

Dear Friends,

As a champion for true collaboration, African Diaspora Network has been a launchpad and incredible organization that has fostered deeper connections among Africans, diasporans, and friends of Africa. ADN has convened over 2,000 individuals through local and national convenings, the results of which have cultivated new partnerships, ventures, funding opportunities, and ideas turned to enterprises.

One of our most prominent success stories is Gebeya, a new-age EdTech company that trains, hires, and cultivates the top talented African software engineers. Co-founders of Gebeya met through the very first African Diaspora Investment Symposium -- their successful enterprise is an example of the power of the African Diaspora Network.

Now I am asking the 2,000+ of you who have participated in ADN’s convenings, whether it be ADIS2016-2019 or the Impact & Innovation Series events, to
fill out our past participants survey and provide a feedback loop on how ADN has catalyzed your work. Share your stories on partnerships you have developed; ventures, funding opportunities, or ideas that were cultivated; or any connections you built as a result of our ADN convenings. Help ADN amplify the impact of your work as we prepare for our landmark fifth annual convening, African Diaspora Investment Symposium 2020 (ADIS2020).

As always,
Thank you,

Almaz Negash

Harnessing the Ripple Effect of ADN

African Diaspora Network seeks past participants of ADN events, including African Diaspora Investment Symposium (ADIS 2016 - 2019) and our Impact & Innovation Series, to share the takeaways of their experience. Organizations such as LoftyInc Capital Management, Gebeya, and Flutterwave have benefited from connections made through ADN and our signature African Diaspora Investment Symposium to meet some incredible people.
"While LoftyInc Management partners were attending the 2017 ADIS, African cohort members of YC & 500 Startups came to meet us there. As a result of knowing their backgrounds from our team on the ground and meeting them at ADIS, we have since been confident enough to invest in three Africa-facing ventures: Flutterwave, Printivo and Kangpe/Reliance HMO. Their average value has appreciated 2-3x in 2 years. They are part of our Afropreneurs Fund portfolio, which seeks to raise up to $60M to do more of the same." - Marsha Wulff, LoftyInc. Capital Management
Help us harness our ripple effect and fill out the survey to amplify the impact of your work as we prepare for our landmark fifth annual convening, African Diaspora Investment Symposium 2020 (ADIS2020). *Note: The final set of questions are specific to past and current awardees of Builders of Africa's Future. We thank you for contributing your feedback and sharing your stories!

Spotlight on Builders of Africa's Future 2019

Navalayo Osembo-Ombati, Enda Athletic, Inc.

"Making this shoe will be a big milestone not just for Enda but also for Kenya, as it will be a great example of high-quality products coming from Africa that can compete in the global market. It will also be another step in improving the economy and reducing poverty levels in the country."
Navalayo Osembo-Ombati, co-founder of Enda Athletic, Inc., started Enda three years ago with the aim of bringing Kenya’s athletic greatness to runners around the world in the form of jobs, skills development, and investing in community-led projects in places where we work.

Enda had great success in its first product, the Enda “Iten”, a lightweight trainer named after a small town in Kenya’s Rift Valley that has the world’s highest concentration of gold medalist runners. Over 4,000 pairs have been sold across the world. This year, they just launched their second product, the “Lapatet,” a best-in-class daily trainer on Kickstarter.
Enda “Lapatets” were recently launched on the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter
Nava and her team are raising $80,000 on Kickstarter, to help offset high capital expenses necessary to build the shoes. In addition to supporting the ongoing Kickstarter campaign, other key asks include:
  1. Investment of $250,000, either in debt or equity to invest mainly in marketing, inventory and working capital; and
  2. Mentorship in digital marketing.
You can contact Ms. Navalayo Osembo at navalayo@endarunning.com or +254789755535 directly to discuss any of the asks above.
