From the historical achievements of our own Nelson mandela, AUSC International Committee has got this commitment to publish the wishes of an excellent celebration , as shared with other all Pan-africanists invloved in shaping the better Africa We deserve ALL.
With those who can , you all are called to Join Sister Keisha Evans from Pan African City Alive in East Palo Alto and others for an informal gathering to honor Nelson Mandela International Day on his birthday, TUESDAY, JULY 18TH FROM 6 – 7:30PM. WE WILL PROMPTLY MEET ON MANDELA PARKWAY AND 8TH STREET (one block down from the West Oakland BART Station).
We will begin with a drum call led by Brother Val Serrant (you can bring a drum to join) and a libation by Sister Keisha. There will be an informal discussion about Mandela (Madiba) and remarks from those in attendance. Afterwards we plan to do a short walk together down Mandela Parkway. Call Mama Afua (510-419-0510) or Sister Keisha (408-830-9427) if you have any questions or ideas.
How the Day came about: In November 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July as "Nelson Mandela International Day" in recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom. Individuals around the world are asked to mark this day by making a difference in their communities.
